It was a sweet win. The Hornets, they were definitely not easy customers by any stretch of the imagination – especially with their buoyant home supporters making for a fierce atmosphere.
Admittedly, they came into the game thinking that anything was possible. If they’d taken a few of their chances, that would have undoubtedly changed the shape of the game completely.
Odion Ighalo was a constant thorn in the Gunners backline, but failed to take any of his opportunities when they came. Against the bigger sides, you MUST do that to have any sustainable chance of grabbing a result.
In the first sixty minutes, it was an entertaining affair with no goals. Fifteen minutes later, it was 3-0 to the visitors. How?
Alexis Sánchez, Mesut Özil and Aaron Ramsey – that’s how. Hector Bellerín, was excellent from start-to-finish. Defensively, he was sharp and quick to cut out counter-attacking moves in their tracks. On the attack, he utilised his pace to good effect, and was a handful for the Hornets to defend against.
As an Arsenal supporter, it just makes you grateful to have players of such a high calibre within the ranks. Sánchez, who probably shouldn’t have been playing in the first place, was excellent.
But never fear, there’s always another tricky game on the horizon.. in the ruthless figure of Bayern in midweek… *winces*
