Despite revealing last month that he could depart next summer, Andres Iniesta will end his career at Barcelona, according to father José Antonio.
Supporters have been left worried by the creative Spaniard’s future plans and where the two parties fit – as Iniesta’s world-class ability has remained despite fears that lengthy injuries would eventually take their toll.
As he can talk to other European sides shortly after Christmas, you can understand why Barca fans are unsettled due to a lack of clarity over the legendary midfielder’s status – will he leave or stay beyond the current campaign?
The latter, if his father José Antonio, is to be believed. He has urged club supporters not to worry about Iniesta’s contract situation, despite rumoured interest from Serie A giants and last year’s Champions League finalists Juventus on the radar.
When questioned by Spanish TV channel Cuatro, he was quoted as saying: “I know that we talk every day with my son and he’s never going to say anything that’s not true.”
“At a professional level, Andres is never going to wear another shirt other than Barca’s so that he doesn’t have to compete against Barca. With the way he looks after himself, he could play an important role for another two or three years.”
Iniesta has made over 600 appearances since making his first-team debut in the 2002/03 campaign. He’s featured on a few occasions already this season, both for club and country.
