US Open 2019: Rafael Nadal wins title in dramatic five-set win vs. Daniil Medvedev

Rafael Nadal won the 19th Grand Slam of his career, prevailing in five-sets with a 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4 win over a defiant Russian Daniil Medvedev after just shy of five hours on Arthur Ashe. The 23-year-old worked tirelessly in his Grand Slam Final debut, registering winners aplenty to get back into title contention from two sets down. Ultimately though, earlier errors proved costly.

US Open 2019: Stan Wawrinka into quarters, Djokovic retires with recurring shoulder injury

Stan Wawrinka is into this year’s US Open quarter-finals after a 6-4, 7-5, 2-1 win over defending champion Novak Djokovic. The world number one was clearly not at his best before retiring early in the third set to a chorus of boos, with a recurrence of his shoulder injury proving too painful to continue playing through and risk further aggravation.
