With both sustained injuries during their 4-0 win over Toulouse on Sunday and Neymar nearing the exit door in Paris, the Ligue 1 champions are interested in completing a move for Mario Mandzukic before next week’s deadline.
Medical tests have shown Kylian Mbappe sustained a hamstring tear and will be sidelined between three weeks and a month: missing France’s upcoming international fixtures as well as PSG’s start to the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League.
Edinson Cavani (right hip) and Abdou Diallo (facial) both sustained injuries, with the latter’s not serious – while the Uruguayan forward is also set for a similar spell on the sidelines. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting netted a brace after replacing Cavani during their 4-0 win, but Thomas Tuchel is believed to want more firepower with Neymar’s future still far from certain.
With the returning Gonzalo Higuain and a transfer-linked Paulo Dybala still on Juve’s books, Mandzukic’s opportunities for first-team are increasingly limited. That’s something he is aware of, despite a blossoming partnership between himself and talismanic forward Cristiano Ronaldo in the final third over the past twelve months.
So with that in mind, it’s understandable he could depart like Moise Kean did for Everton earlier this month to effectively balance their books.
Update: Further reports suggest either the club or player himself have rejected an approach from PSG, who could instead be pondering a lucrative move to China or another European suitor in January, once his first-team standing and situation become clearer.
