WTA Beijing: Gauff refreshed, adds Matt Daly to coaching team after Gilbert split

Ahead of her Beijing exploits, 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff has announced she’s added another component to her coaching team as the 20-year-old eyes an early pre-season of sorts between now and the season’s official end in November after splitting from Brad Gilbert this month — Matt Daly will accompany the American’s longtime coach Jean-Christophe Faurel. Homecooking was in the air for Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, 2022 Indian Wells winner Taylor Fritz and four-time Major titlist Iga Swiatek as the trio all prevailed in their respective tournaments on Sunday, while Australia’s Alexei Popyrin was rewarded for his persistence – securing a second ATP tour-level title at Stan Wawrinka’s expense after a three-set battle in Umag. Emma Raducanu’s US Open campaign continued with a 6-2, 6-4 win over China’s Zhang Shuai but Britain’s teenage qualifier said it was much less one-sided than the scoreline suggested. By contrast, Olympic champion Alexander Zverev (#4) blasted past Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-1, 6-0, 6-3 in 75 minutes while world no. 1 Ashleigh Barty, Belinda Bencic and Iga Swiatek all prevailed.
