#8 ranked UFC heavyweight Marcin Tybura headlines this weekend’s under-the-radar Fight Night card in a Serghei Spivac rematch and the Pole, who was another of Tom Aspinall’s quick victims last year, revealed his surprise at the Brit’s latest stoppage win over longtime contender Curtis Blaydes.

Tybura: Aspinall the division’s most dangerous

Since then, there have been four new heavyweight champions – two interims

JON Jones might sit top of the tree, preparing for his long-awaited first title defence against former champion Stipe Miocic in the final quarter of 2024, but longtime heavyweight contender Marcin Tybura was clear during his own fight week preparations when asked about who the division’s most dangerous fighter is.

Tom Aspinall, who ended a year-long layoff after knee surgery by blasting beyond Tybura last July, successfully defended his interim champion status by avenging an injury-enforced defeat by Curtis Blaydes with a similarly fast first-round finish in the UFC 304 co-main event on home soil at Manchester’s Co-op Arena two weeks ago.

At the time of writing, the 31-year-old has the shortest-average fight time in promotional history (2:02), highest number of significant strikes landed per minute in divisional history (8.07) and more statistics continue flowing in his favour as the clamour for a showdown with longtime light-heavyweight kingpin Jones persists.

Tybura was surprised by his former opponent’s showing against Blaydes, who suffered his fifth stoppage defeat. Considering two were against former champion Francis Ngannou, another came against one-time title challenger Derrick Lewis and former interim challenger Sergei Pavlovich, Tom joined esteemed company.

“I saw the fight and it’s crazy… to think what this guy is capable of, and where is the roof? That’s the only question right now, who can stop him? I cannot tell. Jon Jones in his prime time maybe, but now he’s a little bit older and the skills might not be there. I don’t know, it’s crazy where he’s going.”

Former interim champion Ciryl Gane faces a rematch against Alexander Volkov – the Russian currently riding a four-fight win streak – on a stacked UFC 308 card come October 26 in Abu Dhabi, having rebounded from his disappointing display against Jones with a second-round TKO win over Spivac last September.
